Worked notes on the trickier items

  • Q88. For any two numbers, LCM times HCF equals the product. Here product is 120 and HCF is 2, so LCM equals 120 divided by 2 equals 60. Of the options only 60 is consistent (and 60 is a multiple of the HCF 2).
  • Q90. Work backwards from C. C pays 600 at B's 25 per cent profit, so B's cost is 600 divided by 1.25 equals 480. B bought at A's 20 per cent profit, so A's cost is 480 divided by 1.2 equals 400 rupees.
  • Q93. Adding the three pair-rates: 1/12 plus 1/15 plus 1/20. Taking LCM 60: 5/60 plus 4/60 plus 3/60 equals 12/60 equals 1/5. Each pair-sum counts every worker twice, so 2 times (all-three rate) equals 1/5, giving the all-three rate as 1/10, that is 10 days.
  • Q95. Amount equals 10000 times 1.1 times 1.1 equals 12,100. Compound interest is 12,100 minus 10,000 equals 2,100 rupees (note simple interest would be 2,000, the common trap).
