Definition

The distinction between the Line of Control (LoC), a military control line between India and Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir, and the International Border (IB), the legally recognised and demarcated boundary between the two countries in the plains.

• The International Border (also called the IB) runs through the plains in Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat; it is a settled, mutually recognised and largely demarcated boundary, mostly fenced and guarded by the Border Security Force.

The BSF mainly mans the International Border, while the Army holds the LoC (with BSF support); the "Working Boundary" is Pakistan's term for part of the Jammu-sector boundary that India calls the IB.
